Trapped Key Mechanical Isolation of Switchgear (Die-Cast)
IDEM’s BS and BD mechanical interlocking devices, when mounted directly on equipment, function as a physical barrier for electrical switches and power buttons. Their primary purpose is to prevent accidental changes in the power state. These interlocks are commonly used in electrical switchgear and machine guarding applications. By employing a mechanical interlock, the equipment can be securely locked in the desired position chosen by the end user. This is achieved by extending a bolt and removing the key, effectively blocking the switch from altering its state until the reversal procedure is executed.
The M-BS Trapped Key Bolt Interlock works on the principle that when the key is ‘free’, the bolt is extended in the lock position. When the key is ‘trapped’, the bolt will be retracted.
For gate interlocking applications, it is important that when the bolt is retracted, it is held captive until the guard is closed. If you can extend the bolt whilst the guard is open, you are at risk of serious harm.

Trapped Key Bolt Interlock with Dual Key (M-BD-11)
The M-BD-11 Trapped Key Interlock operates by using a locking bolt mechanism, which is extended when in the lock position. Inserting and turning the appropriate key allows the secondary key to be released, retracting the bolt and allowing access to the hazardous area. The second key (often referred to as the personnel key) should be taken inside the hazardous area to reduce the likelihood of an inadvertent start-up.
- Material: Mirror Polished Die-Cast Metal
- Holding Force: F1Max 5000N
- Key sold separately
Note: It is important that when the bolt is retracted, it is held captive until the guard is closed. If you can extend the bolt whilst the guard is open, you are at risk of serious harm.

Trapped Key Bolt Interlock with Single Key (M-BS)
The M-BS Trapped Key Interlock operates by using a locking bolt mechanism, which is extended when the key is removed. Inserting and turning the appropriate key retracts the bolt, allowing access to the hazardous area.
- Material: Mirror Polished Die-Cast Metal
- Holding Force: F1Max 5000N
Note: It is important that when the bolt is retracted, it is held captive until the guard is closed. If you can extend the bolt whilst the guard is open, you are at risk of serious harm. Key sold separately.
