Trapped Key Control Isolation Switch (Die-Cast)

The initial step in implementing a Trapped Key System involves the isolation of the switchgear or machinery, or both if the operation is complex. There are three common methods of isolation typically utilized, including mechanical isolation, control circuit isolation, and power supply isolation.

IDEM’s control circuit isolation switches have been designed with a 4-pole monitoring contact block that is activated by turning the mechanically coded key. Once the key is removed, the safety contacts are opened, effectively stopping any hazardous processes associated with the area you are attempting to access

The isolation key is utilized to open an access lock with the same code. If multiple access points exist, a key exchange unit may be utilized to release keys with different codes, allowing several gates to be open simultaneously.

Product range features:

  • Mirror Polished Die-Cast
  • Panel Mount or Robust External Mounting
  • 2NC + 2NO, 3NC + 1NO or 4NC Monitoring Contact Blocks
  • M-ISB-CB Capable of IP67 Protection.

External Mount Trapped Key Control Isolation Switch (M-ISB-CB)

The M-ISB-CB is the first stage in the Trapped Key Process and is designed to be mounted externally. Turning the key opens the safety contacts, turning the CONTROL CIRCUIT OFF, allowing the key to be removed and transferred to the next stage in your Trapped Key System.

  • Body Material: Mirror Polished Die-Cast Metal
  • Ingress Protection: IP67
  • Contacts: 2NC + 2NO, 3NC + 1NO or 4NC Monitoring Contact Blocks
  • Connection: 3 x M20 or ½” NPT Conduits

NOTE: Key sold separately.

External Mount Trapped Key Control Isolation Switch with Tongue Interlock (M-TS-CB)

The M-TS-CB is a trapped key gate access lock with an internal contact block. Turning the key unlocks the actuator and opens the safety contacts. The M-TSR-CB has a ‘key trapped’ during normal operation and becomes 'free' when the guard is open. The M-TS-CB has a ‘key free’ during normal operation and becomes 'trapped' when the guard is open.
  • Body Material: Mirror Polished Die-Cast Metal
  • Ingress Protection: IP67
  • Contacts: 2NC + 2NO, 3NC + 1NO or 4NC Monitoring Contact Blocks
  • Connection: 3 x M20 or ½” NPT Conduits
NOTE: Key and actuator sold separately.

Panel Mount Trapped Key Control Isolation Switch (M-CS)

The M-CS is the first stage in the Trapped Key Process and is designed to mount directly to your panel. Turning the key opens the safety contacts, turning the CONTROL CIRCUIT OFF, allowing the key to be removed and transferred to the next stage in your Trapped Key System.

  • Body Material: Die-Cast Metal Barrel and Stainless Steel Mounting Plate
  • Contacts: 4NC + 2NO Monitoring Contact Block
  • Key sold separately

NOTE: Solenoid controlled key release model available.
