Light Curtain Prohibitive Blocking Device with Personnel Key to Prevent Unexpected Start-Ups (LCB)
What is a Light Curtain Blocking Device?
Light Curtain Blocking Device (LCB) is a highly versatile trapped key safety solution designed for both new installations and retrofit applications. It is an optoelectronic device that provides a robust blocking function to enhance safety when used with light curtain systems, which improve machine or production line accessibility by reducing the need for mechanical guarding. The LCB ensures a secure lock-off, preventing the reactivation of the light curtain barrier when installed correctly.
This device can be seamlessly integrated into a broader Skorpion trapped key system, allowing for additional layers of safety in complex safeguarding setups. It also offers a dual lock-off capability, enabling an 8mm padlock hasp to secure the light curtain in either its operational or blocked position. This feature provides added flexibility while enhancing safety measures.
To further protect operators, the LCB includes a personnel key, which prevents the machine from restarting while individuals are working inside the safeguarded area. This proactive inhibit function reduces risk during tasks requiring whole-body access, ensuring operators are safeguarded against potential hazards.
The Light Curtain Blocking Device is an ideal solution for environments where safety and accessibility must work together, making it suitable for production lines, automated machinery, and maintenance areas that require frequent access. By combining the functionality of light curtains with the reliability of trapped key systems, the LCB optoelectronic device offers a comprehensive approach to achieving modern safety standards.

LCB Features and Benefits
LCB Devices comes with a personnel key which protects operators from an inadvertent start-up occurring whilst working inside a safeguarded area.
- Manufactured from robust stainless steel
- Integrated mounting plates for easy installation directly onto the light curtain
- Releases a personnel key for taking inside the safeguarded area
- Different orientations available (Left- or Right-hand)
- Integrated padlock holes for additional personnel entering the area
How does it work?
The LCB is mounted to the side of your light curtain device. In the unblocked position, the key is trapped and cannot be removed.
Rotating the key 90 degrees drives the blocking plate into the closed position. The key can now be removed.
Removing the key locks the blocking plate closed. Only when the key is returned can the plate be turned.
Compatible with Lockout/Tagout Procedures.
Every LCB comes with padlock holes for lockout/tagout procedures.
They are designed to block the function, preventing the machinery from restarting and endangering personnel.
