IDEM Safety Switches introduces the TouchSafe two-hand control buttons, designed to minimise operator strain in repetitive automated production tasks. Utilising capacitive sensing technology, the fully electronic design enables effortless, zero-force activation, reducing fatigue and enhancing user comfort during prolonged use.

The TouchSafe buttons are rated to IP69K ingress protection and are impervious to workplace contaminants like dirt, grease, or foreign objects, yet remain operable even when using disposable or work gloves.

To enable the production task, a two-hand control safety relay monitors the simultaneous actuation of the TouchSafe buttons via their control outputs.

The two-hand control system detects incorrect or inattentive operation—such as attempting to start the machine with one hand or another body part—and prevents activation. A ring of brightly coloured red and green LEDs around the button surface gives clear indication of the button’s activation state.

The fully electronic design is engineered for fatigue-free, continuous use, offering extreme durability, reliability, and robustness. Users receive clear optical feedback via LEDs, ensuring intuitive operation.
IDEM Safety Switches offers the TouchSafe two-hand control with additional accessories such as a robust metal enclosure and adjustable floor stand for external mounting. Each capacitive ZF button features a pre-wired 90-degree M12 connector, ensuring quick and effortless installation. Secure mounting is simplified with a threaded design and a fixing nut for reliable clamping.

Industry Applications & Use Cases

Metalworking & Manufacturing

Two-hand control stations are widely used in metal fabrication industries where heavy machinery poses significant risks to operators.
  • Presses (Punch, Stamping, Hydraulic, Mechanical, and Servo Presses) – Ensures safe operation by requiring deliberate two-hand activation, preventing accidental starts.
  • Cutting & Shearing Machines – Protects operators from high-speed or sharp cutting tools.
  • Bending & Folding Machines – Ensures hands are clear before the machine operates.

Automotive & Aerospace

In high-precision and automated environments, two-hand controls provide an extra layer of safety.

  • Robotic Welding & Assembly Lines – Prevents unintended activation, reducing workplace accidents.
  • Metal Forming & Stamping – Ensures operators’ hands remain clear of hazardous areas during forming processes.

Packaging & Material Handling

Automated machinery in packaging and logistics environments benefits from two-hand control safety measures.

  • Palletizing & Wrapping Machines – Prevents accidental activation during material handling.
  • Die Cutting & Labeling Machines – Enhances safety in high-speed processing.

Woodworking & Furniture Manufacturing

Machinery used in cutting, shaping, and assembling wood components requires safety measures to protect operators.

  • Pressing & Sawing Machines – Prevents accidental engagement when adjusting materials.
  • CNC Routers & Drilling Machines – Ensures workpieces are securely positioned before operation.

Plastic & Rubber Industry

Heavy-duty equipment in plastic and rubber processing benefits from two-hand safety controls.

  • Injection Molding Machines – Ensures hands are clear before mold closure.
  • Thermoforming Machines – Reduces the risk of premature activation.

Textile & Paper Processing

High-speed cutting and processing in textile and paper industries require strict operator safety.

  • Roll Cutters & Slitting Machines – Prevents accidental activation when positioning material.

Construction & Heavy Equipment

Industrial and construction machinery require reliable safety mechanisms for safe operation.

  • Hydraulic Presses & Pile Drivers – Reduces accidental activation in high-risk environments.

Chemical & Pharmaceutical Processing

Machinery in these industries must ensure safe operation when handling hazardous substances.

  • Mixers & Blenders – Prevents accidental machine starts while handling volatile materials.

Key Benefits of Two-Hand Control Stations:

  • Prevents Accidental Activation – Ensures machinery only operates when both hands are engaged.
  • Increases Operator Safety – Keeps hands clear from hazardous zones.
  • Meets Global Safety Standards – Compliant with ISO 13851, OSHA and ANSI.
  • Enhances Productivity – Reduces downtime due to workplace injuries.
  • Reliable & Durable – Designed for continuous use in demanding industrial environments.
